Eligibility and Application Procedure

Am I eligible?

To be eligible to enter the program candidates must have a high school diploma or the equivalent to a German Abitur.

 

 

Do I have to travel to Berlin in order to submit my portfolio and attend the intake interview?

Not necessarily, for remote applicants we offer the opportunity to have a Skype interview and to send their portfolio online along with their application documents.

 

When should I send in my application?

The deadline is May 15th annually. Applications sent in after the deadline will be considered when capacity allows.

Please indicate that you apply for the Bachelor Program and send your complete application to info@esmod.de.

What should I include in my portfolio?

Once an appointment for an interview has bin fixed you will receive a portfolio assignment, which you should complete and turn in within a period of 4 weeks.
In addition to the portfolio assignment, portfolio should include at least five additional work samples such as sewing, photography, or illustrations.
Digital portfolios are to be submitted as a PDF fie. In case the PDF file exceeds the size limit of an Email you can upload the file on WeTransfer or Dropbox and send us the download link.

Does ESMOD offer preparation classes?

ESMOD Berlin offers summer courses in Fashion Illustration as well as Pattern Making and Draping. The course description, dates and prices can be found on our website.

 

 

Which level of English is required in order to study the English-taught course?

 

Applicants are required to demonstrate their language ability with either a TOFEL or IELTS test. The English Niveau should be B2 or higher according to European Standards. For more information please visit the website of your test institution.

 

I applied for the English program, do I need to supply proof of my German skills?
No.

 

Which level of German is required in order to study the German-taught course?

Unless you are a native German who completed your high school graduation in Germany you are required to prove a German Niveau of B2.

Course Content

According to the course plan, will there be courses and seminars daily?

 

Yes, the Bachelor Program runs full-time Mondays to Fridays. A typical day starts at 9:00 AM and ends at 6:00 PM.

 

Is it possible to work during my studies?

 

Combining creative studies with a job is never easy, given the amount of work, homework/assignments and deadlines. However many students manage to combine working part-time with the intensive course.

 

Do I need to have experience in sewing or pattern making before the studies?

 

Not at all, your creative potential counts and the skills are being taught step by step. However being prepared and acquiring some new skills never hurts.

 

 

Do I need to have a sewing machine at home?

 

Yes, this allows you to catch up on assignments during the evenings and weekends as the university is not open after hours for students to work.

 

 

Is the degree state accredited?

 

Since 2011 ESMOD Berlin International University of Art for Fashion is officially recognized by the Senate Administration for Education, Science and Research as a University of Art according to § 123 I and II of the Berlin Higher Education Act.

Does ESMOD Berlin have an Open Day?

ESMOD Berlin organises two to three Open Days within the academic year. Subscribers of our newsletter will get informed via email, additionally, we will announce the dates on our webpage and social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

Finances and Funding

What are the tuition fees for the Bachelor Programme?

Is it possible to get a discount on the tuition fees or to be released from paying the tuition fee?

 

The tutiton fee is fixed and cannot be adjusted.

 

What does the tuition price include and does it cover expenses like materials, fabrics etc.?

 

The tuition covers the expenses of attending the program and an initial book set received in the 1st year of your studies. All additional expenses related to project and course work must be covered by the student.

 

What other costs should I expect upon beginning my studies?

 

We recommend approximately 200 EUR as a reasonable monthly budget to cover the material expenses such as fabrics, prints and miscellaneous materials you will require for your various projects during the semester.

 

What study financing options are available?

 

 

The Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) / German Academic Exchange Service is a key funding body for education and can provide living expenses, grants and/or scholarships to foreign students. There are many other funding bodies however candidates are required to do their own research. It is also recommended that you check your own countries funding opportunities for international study.

 

Any scholarship application is strengthened if you are already accepted into the program, so we recommend you apply in advance as much as possible. Most scholarship programs run approximately one year in advance, so it is important to be prepared.

 

Additionally, ESMOD cooperates with Kärcher, a globally operated family business that specializes in household electronic devices.
Each year Kärcher supports an outstanding applicant, covering their tuition for the first academic year.

Can I apply for the program before the scholarship applications are open?

Yes, you can apply for the program anytime, and if you are accepted you can apply for the scholarship when we call for applications. If you are not accepted into the program you cannot apply for the scholarship. You can apply for the scholarship and program at the same time by completing both applications.

Does ESMOD provide student housing?

ESMOD Berlin does not offer residential accommodation for students but we can recommend you some platforms for housing.
